Turkey’s «Takvim» newspaper reported that Turkish intelligence thwarted two assassination attempts on Ismail Haniyeh by Israel. Furthermore, they advised him to exercise caution prior to his planned visit to Iran.
As per the report, Turkish intelligence alerted Haniyeh when Iran excluded the name of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah group, from the guest list for President Masoud al-Medeshkian’s inauguration ceremony, but retained Haniyeh’s name.
Furthermore, Turkish intelligence had also advised Haniyeh to avoid using phones, the internet, or road travel before his Tehran visit due to concerns about possible Mossad involvement before he was assassinated.
It is important to mention that Ismail Haniyeh, alongside one of his bodyguards, tragically lost his life in a mysterious attack at the IRGC guest house in a secure area of Tehran, Iran, on July 31st.
Iranian authorities have stated that the attack was carried out using a small rocket. However, according to the New York Times newspaper, based on its sources, explosives were secretly planted in Haniyeh’s residence two months prior and were triggered remotely.
Numerous analysts speculate that certain Iranian officials may have collaborated with Israel in the assassination of Haniyeh. The subsequent arrests of numerous security and intelligence personnel by the Iranian government following the incident indicate that there is internal belief that individuals within the system played a role in betraying Haniyeh.
