The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has reported that ISIS militants are intimidating farmers in Tadmor city, located in Eastern Homs, by demanding Zakat payments under the threat of punishment.

According to the report, ISIS members riding motorcycles informed the farmers in Tadmor city that they are obligated to pay Zakat. Failure to comply would result in punishment and expulsion from the area.

Extorting money from individuals at gunpoint in various regions of Syria has become a common practice for ISIS. In May of the previous year, a group of Daesh militants approached farmers on motorcycles in Suh Al-Zaib, Abu Hamam, Deir Ezzor city, physically assaulted them, and issued warnings to prevent them from returning to the area.

Furthermore, in early May of the previous year, two Daesh insurgents visited the residence of an oil investor in the Shaheel region of Deir Ezzor, demanding 8000 US dollars in the name of Zakat.
