Iran’s official state agency has reported that three Afghans have been arrested in Karaj on charges of being associated with ISIS-Khawarij.

According to the report, these individuals were apprehended by the police in the city of Karaj, near Tehran, following extensive intelligence efforts.

The spokesperson for the local police stated that one of the detained individuals is named Mohammad Zaker, also known as Ramesh. He held a high-ranking position within ISIS and was involved in orchestrating attacks during Eid al-Fitr.

Subsequent to the release of this information, sources linked to the NRF (Fronts of Rebellion) affirmed that Ramesh, along with one of his brothers and an associate, had been taken into custody by the Iranian police.

Mohammad Zaker (AKA Ramesh) and his brother are the sons of a rebel commander (senior NRF commander ) named Khair Muhammad Kheirkhah who was killed in a confrontation with the security forces of the Islamic Emirate in late December 2022.

Ahmad Zia Saraj, the former General Director of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) of the previous puppet regime in Kabul, also recently informed BBC Persian that Ramesh had been detained in Kabul on allegations of affiliation with Daesh during the prior administration’s tenure. However, his innocence was promptly established within «one or two hours.»

This occurrence is not the initial instance where reports detailing a nexus between the rebels (NRF) and the Khawarij have been disclosed.

In the months of April and May 2022, Daesh-Khawarij launched missile attacks from Afghanistan towards Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

In July of that same year, the culprits responsible for the assault were apprehended in an operation conducted by the security forces in the Kunjagha area of Imam Sahib district, Kunduz.

During the operation, one of the detained individuals associated with Daesh admitted that they did not possess missiles, suggesting that they had been procured from individuals affiliated with the rebel front (NRF) in Panjshir.

Moreover, a preacher associated with Daesh Khawarij, Abu Hanzala Jawanmard, delivered a vocal statement some time ago, referring to the individuals within the rebel front as his brothers. He mentioned that he includes them in his prayers during every prayer. It is noteworthy that Abu Hanzala’s actual name is Muhammad Zarif, and his father-in-law lost his life alongside the rebels in Panjshir following the takeover of the country by the Islamic Emirate.
